Children, especially the ones who have not yet been\ninducted into school [!], learn the most; because they learn from experience.\nYou frown?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look\nat a three month baby. He turns on his stomach and his nose hits the ground.\nOuch! He cries. He does this a number of times when he realises that when he\nturns he needs to keep his nose off the ground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Gratefully, we can\u2019t have classes for this or \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look\nat a 6 month baby. He has learnt he can go against the gravity and pull himself\nup but his hands have not yet learnt to bear his weight. He learns to bear his\nweight and to move from point boring to point interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Gratefully, we can\u2019t have classes for this or \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then\nthe baby decides he wants to see what is on the table and so teaches himself to\nstand. He has learnt that falling is only a part of the process, not the end\nand certainly not the interesting part. So, mostly the mother turns around to\nfind him standing holding on to the table cloth. She lets out a squeal of\ndelight, he turns around in surprise, lets go of the cloth, falls down and\nteaches himself to stand all over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Gratefully, we can\u2019t have classes for this or \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He teaches himself to walk, to splash water, to throw the ball, to run to something instead of away from it [most little ones look in one direction and move in another which should tell us how well our brain controls our movements; but then we do not have the time to stop and appreciate the simple things of life!]. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our little baby teaches himself to evolve through <strong><em>the first 5 stages of the Dasa Avataar<\/em><\/strong> with no instructions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The five stages of Dasa Avataar are:<\/strong><br><em>\u2013 Lying prone rather like fish [matsya] <br>\u2013 Crawling [koorma] <br>\u2013 Creeping [varaha]<br>\u2013 Sitting [narasimha]<br>\u2013 Standing erect [vamana]<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gratefully,\nwe don\u2019t have classes for all this or we would mess him up completely with a\nfirm and unwavering hand. Oh, I am not joking. Because by the time he is at the\nfifth stage, we realise that the little fellow actually understands what we\nsay. And then begin the Niagara of instructions. \u2018Throw the ball\u2026 like\nthis\u2026 far\u2026 to me\u2026 where are you throwing it?\u2026don\u2019t kick, throw\u2019. \u2018Eat\nwith your right hand\u2026 this is your left hand\u2026 right hand\u2026 don\u2019t use your\nleft hand\u2026shake hands with your right hand\u2026 don\u2019t give with the left\nhand\u2026\u2019 \u2018 Write a slanting line, in the middle write a straight line then\nwrite another slanting line\u2026 write a straight line, write a round at the bottom\u2026\nnot that side this side that is b this is d\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If\na child does not become a pre-school dropout it is because he still loves to\nteach himself \u2013 how to grip the pencil, how to make it move smoothly, how far\nhe needs to tilt his head so he can see what he writes\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lumenseducation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/8253672-3x2-700x467-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-274\" width=\"276\" height=\"184\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lumenseducation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/8253672-3x2-700x467-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/lumenseducation.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/8253672-3x2-700x467-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A child learns best when it is exciting; he learns better when he teaches himself. He is most concentrated when he sets his sights and works towards it; he is curious about the end and enjoys the process. There is never a dull moment.
